Materials List

One of the first mistakes new artists make is to try to skimp on their supplies or to try to make do with what they have. Try to follow this materials list as closely as you can and you will avoid trouble in your future paintings.

Have the following Acrylic paints:
(Only buy these brand names. If you substitute brands they may or may not be suitable.)

Grumbacher Academy Acrylics:

  1. Raw Umber
  2. Burnt Sienna
  3. French Ultramarine Blue
  4. Hookers Green
  5. Cadmium Orange
  6. Titanium White

*Optional: Raw sienna, Thalo Blue, Alizarin Crimson

Liquitex Soft Flow or High Virtuosity Acrylics.

Comes in a small 2 oz. plastic jar.

  1. Naphthol Crimson
  2. Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue
  3. Cadmium Red Medium Hue
  4. Ivory Black

Liquitex Acrylic in 2 oz. tube:

  1. Cadmium Red Medium (This is an expensive brand and I would only buy this tube if you plan to do a lot of painting or go to the Apprenticeship level.)

Brushes

There are four brushes required for the class. Refer to the McNaughton Workbook or ask the Roberts Store Clerk for assistance.

Palette

I would suggest a 12X16 inch disposable paper palette. Ask the Roberts store clerk for assistance.

Other suggested items:

  1. Bring a jar of water to hold your brushes.
  2. Wear suitable clothes for painting or an apron.
  3. Paper Towels
  4. Container for your supplies.
  5. Pencil
  • The optional paint colors I seldom use but they may be helpful as you develop your skills over time.
  • Ask the Roberts Sales Clerk to help you find the supplies otherwise follow the instructions in the workbook as to what you need.
